Education Abroad in the Middle East

PSU offers undergraduate students several quarter, semester, or year-abroad programs in the Middle East. Students can earn PSU credit for education abroad programs in Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, and Turkey.

Egypt
American University in Cairo
Students can take courses in Arab culture and history; Egyptology; Arabic language; environmental science; political science; and development and business. All courses are taught in English and PSU students are integrated into the university by taking courses alongside Egyptian students. This program is available on a semester basis or during the summer, and students are housed in residence halls.

Jordan
The University of Jordan in Amman
The program is designed for students who have an interest in Jordan and the Middle East. Courses are offered in the areas of Arabic language, anthropology, history, economics, literature, religion, archaeology, environment, political science, and the media. This program is very suitable for a student who would like to do volunteer work or an internship.

Tunisia
Tunisia Study Abroad Program through Oregon State University
Oregon State University offers every fall a 10-week program in Tunisia. The program is based at Institut Supérieur des Langues à Tunis (ISLT), part of the Université du 7 Novembre à Carthage in Tunis and features language study (in French and/or Arabic) as well as option courses in Mediterranean, gender and environmental studies taught in English. The program is open to qualified students at Portland State University. Registration is through Oregon State University.

Turkey
Middle East Technical University
This program is designed for students with a range of interests from archaeology to engineering to sociology, who would like to combine those interests with study in this ancient and dynamic country. This program is available on a semester basis or on an academic year basis.
